Kootenay real estate market heats up in April

In April, the residential real estate market in the Kootenay region saw an increase in activity, according to a report from the Association of Interior Realtors. The report noted that the Kootenay and Boundary region experienced an 11.3 percent rise in unit sales compared to the same month last year, with 246 sales recorded in April, up from 214 in March.

There were 574 new listings in the region in April, a 31.8 percent increase from the previous year and an uptick from March’s 448 new listings. Overall active listings in the Kootenay region increased by 23.1 percent compared to April 2023, totaling 1,427 listings.

Association President Kaytee Sharun mentioned that sales activity in the region has been consistent, with inventory levels increasing gradually but still below pre-pandemic levels. The benchmark price for single-family homes and condominiums saw percentage increases of 14.2 percent and 16.9 percent, respectively, compared to the previous year. However, the benchmark price for townhomes experienced a slight decrease of 2.3 percent, settling at $470,500.
