‘Talk Story’ event set May 22 to share ideas for Maui’s energy future : Maui Now

On May 5, 2024, at 12:30 PM HST, Maui will host a forum titled “Talk Story on Maui’s Energy Future” at the Cameron Center auditorium in Wailuku on May 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. Organized by the Teran James Young Foundation and the Maui Community Energy Alliance, the event aims to engage the public in discussions about the island’s energy landscape and future direction.

Panelists at the event will include experts such as Shay Chan Hodges from Maui ESG, Ian Chan Hodges from Ingenuity Underwriters Ltd., Jenny Potter, former member of the Public Utilities Commission, and Rob Weltman from the Maui Sierra Club. The forum will also feature Henry Curtis from Life of the Land on Oʻahu and Leilani Chow from Sustainable Molokaʻi, who spearheaded the development of the Molokaʻi Community Energy Resilience Action Plan.

Topics of discussion will include the need for a safe and resilient power supply and distribution system, the benefits of micro-grids for enhancing local resilience, and the potential consequences of rising power rates. Dr. Genesis Young, executive director of the Teran James Young Foundation, emphasized the importance of the event for Maui’s economic and energy future.
