Journalism student chosen for Dow Jones News Fund internship

Tori DeJournett, a journalism major at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, has been selected as a Dow Jones News Fund intern, joining 86 college students nationwide in this prestigious program. DeJournett, the sole representative from Hawai’i, stood out among over 1,000 applicants for a paid summer internship in one of 62 newsrooms across the country.

DeJournett and 12 other interns will undergo specialized digital media training at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University before starting their summer residency at Hawai’i Public Radio’s newsroom.

Reflecting on her experiences at UH Mānoa’s Journalism program, DeJournett expressed gratitude for the skills and knowledge gained from professors and mentors, which she believes will benefit her career. This marks the third consecutive year that a UH Mānoa journalism student has been accepted into the Dow Jones News Fund internship program.

Professor Brett Oppegaard, the journalism program director, commended the success of UH students in national competitions, highlighting the program’s commitment to nurturing future storytellers and truth tellers within the local community. The journalism program is part of the School of Communication and Information in UH Mānoa’s College of Social Sciences.
