MTI has released “Junie B.’s Essential Survival Guide to School JR.” for licensing, a follow-up to “Junie B. Jones The Musical” written by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich. The musical is based on the children’s book series by Barbara Park.
In this new musical, Junie B. is writing a guide to surviving first grade while facing challenges like writer’s block. Heisler and Goldrich describe the show as a story about friends coming together, helping each other, and the joy of creating things.
MTI President and CEO Drew Cohen praises the adaptation for young performers, stating that Junie B. Jones will capture the hearts of audience members just like the books did for a generation of students.
Both “Junie B. Jones The Musical” and “Junie B.’s Essential Survival Guide to School” were originally developed by TheatreWorks USA for Theatre for Young Audiences. The new Broadway Junior edition was supervised by Timothy Allen McDonald of iTheatrics.
