Kuehne+Nagel establishes network of cross dock warehouses in support of healthcare market in U.S.

Kuehne+Nagel has introduced a new network of eight temperature-controlled facilities for cross-docking operations. These facilities are GxP-compliant and are ideal for healthcare products like medicines, vaccines, medical devices, and diagnostic kits.

The cross-docking solution aims to optimize supply chain efficiencies and reduce CO2 emissions. It involves loading and unloading sea freight temperature-controlled containers in a warehouse near an ocean port, allowing for quick container return to the port. The containers are then sorted and transported by road to their final destination, cutting down on container use and detentions charges.

Kuehne+Nagel’s expanded network includes warehouses in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Wilmington, and Los Angeles, with four more locations set to open in 2024. All facilities offer multiple temperature ranges and comply with Kuehne+Nagel’s HealthChain certification for transporting healthcare products.

Jeff Garcia, Industry Champion Healthcare for Kuehne+Nagel, highlights the benefits of cross-docking in reducing costs and CO2 emissions. The company’s success with a pilot program for a global health customer has led to the expansion of this offering to the healthcare market in the United States.

Kuehne+Nagel, with approximately 81,000 employees worldwide, is a leading logistics provider with a strong focus on air and sea logistics. The company is committed to sustainable logistics through initiatives like the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi), aiming to reduce its environmental footprint and provide low-carbon logistics solutions to customers.
