Get tips for lowering high Colorado energy bills, and find out how to get assistance paying them

Temperatures in Colorado are expected to soar into the triple digits over the weekend, putting a strain on air conditioners as residents try to stay cool. Xcel Energy suggests ways to save on electric bills during this hot weather.

One way to keep costs down is to practice energy-saving habits like using a programmable thermostat, using ceiling fans to circulate air, and opening interior doors to improve airflow. Other tips include using a whole-house or attic fan, changing air conditioner filters, and closing drapes and blinds during the hottest part of the day.

To further reduce bills, customers can turn off lights and electronics when not in use, switch to LED bulbs, and run appliances like washing machines and dishwashers with full loads during cooler times of the day.

Xcel Energy also offers programs like A/C Rewards and Saver’s Switch, which provide financial incentives for reducing energy consumption. Energy Outreach Colorado is also helping people facing high energy bills by offering emergency financial assistance.
