Ethereum ETFs: Here Are All the Applications Awaiting SEC Approval

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has recently approved 11 spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, sparking interest in the approval of an Ethereum equivalent. Several financial firms, including BlackRock, Grayscale, and ARK Invest, have filed proposals with the SEC for Ethereum ETFs. BlackRock’s CEO, Larry Fink, has expressed enthusiasm for Ethereum and tokenization, emphasizing the value of an Ethereum ETF.

Grayscale, a major player in the cryptocurrency industry, is seeking to convert its Grayscale Ethereum Trust into a spot Ethereum ETF. The company successfully converted its Bitcoin Trust into an ETF earlier this year, setting a precedent for the transition of crypto vehicles to ETFs.

ARK Invest, in partnership with 21Shares and custodian Coinbase, has also filed a proposal for an Ethereum ETF. These filings represent a significant step towards providing investors with exposure to Ethereum, the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap.

Overall, the approval of Ethereum ETFs in the U.S. could open up new investment opportunities and further legitimize the cryptocurrency market in the eyes of traditional investors. The deadline for the decision on the product is May 24. Financial services giant Fidelity expressed its interest in launching an Ethereum ETF back in November when Cboe, the intended exchange for the product, filed a 19b-4 on behalf of the firm. In March, Fidelity submitted its S-1 to the SEC for the Fidelity Ethereum Fund, with a decision expected on August 3.

VanEck, an asset manager, initially proposed an Ethereum ETF with the SEC in 2021 but later withdrew the proposal. The firm is known for its successful Bitcoin ETF, for which it waived fees to compete with other funds. A decision on its Ethereum ETF is expected on May 23.

Brazilian fund manager Hashdex had a proposal for its Hashdex Nasdaq Ethereum ETF filed by Nasdaq in September. The SEC approved its Hashdex Bitcoin ETF in January, which is yet to start trading on a stock exchange. A decision on the Hashdex Nasdaq Ethereum ETF is due on May 30.

Wall Street giant Franklin Templeton entered the race in February with a proposal for the Franklin Ethereum Trust, highlighting staking in its filing. The SEC will make a decision on this product on June 11.

Invesco, in collaboration with Galaxy Digital, submitted a proposal for an ETH ETF in September. Invesco would sponsor the product, while Galaxy Digital would act as its execution agent. The SEC will decide on this proposal on July 7.

Bitwise, a digital asset investment firm, filed an S-1 form in March for a spot Ethereum ETF. It also mentioned staking as part of its investment strategy. Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan expects ETH ETFs to launch in December and believes they will be more successful if approved later in the year. The Benefits of Regular Exercise
