Drip(s) through the decades – The Rice Thresher

Drips through the decades have been a common occurrence at Rice University. From leaky faucets to rainy days, water droplets have made their mark on campus over the years.

One of the most famous drips in Rice’s history is the Sallyport Drip. Located in the iconic Sallyport arch, this drip has been a source of superstition for students. Legend has it that if you walk under the drip, you will fail your next exam. Despite efforts to fix the leak, the Sallyport Drip continues to mystify and entertain students to this day.

In more recent years, sustainability efforts have focused on fixing leaks and reducing water waste on campus. The Facilities Engineering and Planning department has been working diligently to repair dripping faucets and pipes, saving both water and money in the process.

As Rice University continues to evolve, so do the drips that dot its campus. Whether it’s a leaky faucet or a rainy day, water droplets will always have a place in Rice’s history.
