Stock futures were almost unchanged on Wednesday evening following a lower-than-expected inflation report that pushed major stock averages to record highs. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose by 0.08%, S&P 500 futures increased by 0.06%, and Nasdaq 100 futures advanced by 0.1%.
During regular trading, all three major averages closed at record highs. The Dow climbed by 0.88%, the S&P 500 gained 1.17%, ending above 5,300 for the first time, and the Nasdaq Composite closed higher by 1.40%.
The positive performance was supported by the April consumer price index, which rose by 0.3% from the previous month, slightly below expectations. Consumer prices still grew by 3.4% compared to a year ago.
Investors are now looking forward to economic data on Thursday, including weekly jobless claims and the Philadelphia Federal Reserve manufacturing index. Earnings reports from Walmart, Under Armour, and Baidu are also anticipated before the market opens.
