Maruti Suzuki clocks 12.42% sales growth, exports surge; shares close 0.62% higher

Maruti Suzuki, the largest carmaker in India, experienced a strong 12.42 percent growth in sales in June. The company sold 1,79,228 units last month, up from 1,59,418 units in the same period last year. Domestic vehicle sales also saw a 3.1 percent increase, with 1,37,160 units sold in June compared to 1,33,027 units in June 2023.

Maruti Suzuki’s shares closed at ₹12,111 on July 1, up from ₹12,036.90 on June 28. While mid-segment cars like Alto and S-Presso faced a decline in sales, dropping by 49.5 percent to 9,395 units, sales of utility vehicles like Brezza, Ertiga, and XL6 saw a significant increase of 21.12 percent to 52,373 units.

The company’s export sales also rose by 56.97 percent to 31,033 units in June 2024. In the first quarter of the year, overall sales went up by 4.78 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. This growth was largely driven by utility vehicles and van sales.

Other carmakers in India, such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Toyota Motor Corp, and Kia Motor, also reported high sales in June 2024, particularly in the sports utility vehicle segment due to customer preferences influenced by heat waves.
