GOP primary battle turns Va.’s 5th District into a political Tilt-a-Whirl

MINERAL, Va. — John McGuire, a Republican candidate for Congress, brought his campaign to a spring carnival in Mineral, Virginia. The event had a mix of small-town charm and strong support for the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement. Children who played games and hit a bell were able to win toy assault weapons.

McGuire spoke to voters at the carnival in this red central Virginia town, making a pro-Trump and anti-establishment pitch. He is running in the June 18 primary against Rep. Bob Good, who is the chairman of the hard-right House Freedom Caucus. McGuire’s campaign is challenging the incumbent from a more conservative perspective.

The atmosphere at the carnival was lively, with supporters of both candidates mingling and enjoying the festivities. McGuire’s presence at the event showed his commitment to connecting with voters in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. The June 18 primary will ultimately determine who will represent the Republican party in the upcoming election.
