Taiwan has issued a warning against traveling to China after a threat of execution was made by Beijing. The government of Taiwan has advised its citizens not to travel to China unless absolutely necessary. This warning also extends to the Chinese-administered regions of Hong Kong and Macau.
The threat of execution from Beijing was directed towards individuals seen as strong supporters of Taiwan’s independence. China considers Taiwan as its own territory and has expressed its disapproval of President Lai Ching-te, whom they label as a “separatist.” In response to President Lai taking office last month, China conducted two days of military exercises. Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council spokesperson, Liang Wen-chieh, informed the public about the heightened travel warning.
