Caschaus Tate, Xavier Tate Jr.’s relative, tried to get rid of gun belonging to Chicago Police Officer Luis Huesca: prosecutors

In a Markham courtroom, Caschaus Tate, 20, was ordered to be detained after allegedly attempting to dispose of Officer Luis Huesca’s service weapon shortly after being released on an unrelated burglary charge in Richton Park. The burglary, which occurred on April 19 at Katie’s Convenience store in a south suburb, was caught on video and involved breaking windows and stealing an ATM filled with thousands of dollars. Tate was arrested for this crime along with an accomplice.

On April 26, Tate was detained again at a home in Morgan Park as police searched for his relative, Xavier Tate Jr., who is charged with Huesca’s murder. Tate was seen throwing a Glock handgun over a fence, which was later identified as Huesca’s service weapon. Xavier Tate Jr. remains at large, with a $100,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

Authorities are offering a combined $100,000 reward for information on Xavier Tate Jr.’s whereabouts. He has tattoos on his neck, chest, and body, and may go by the nickname “Zay.” He has ties to various cities in Illinois.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers or the CPD hotline. Xavier Tate Jr. was captured on video at gas station convenience stores before and after the murder, and is considered armed and dangerous. The investigation is ongoing.
