Stella has 18 condos in D.C.’s Petworth neighborhood

Michael McGrath, a resident of Lanham, Md., made a decision to purchase his first home in 2022 after spending two years commuting to Judiciary Square in D.C. He wanted to be closer to downtown to minimize his commute. McGrath chose to buy a “junior” one-bedroom unit at the Stella, a boutique condominium in D.C.’s Petworth neighborhood, just 15 minutes away from his office.

The Stella boasts a contemporary European aesthetic, with light-filled units featuring unique design elements such as Spanish-tile floors, white-oak flooring, porcelain backsplashes, and quartz countertops. The building offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, along with four bi-level penthouses with decks that provide views of the Washington National Cathedral.

Residents at the Stella enjoy amenities such as a full-size washer and dryer, outdoor parking spaces for purchase, on-street permit parking, a bike storage room, and a communal terrace with a grill. The building is situated near the historic Jones-Haywood Dance School and is surrounded by older commercial buildings and residential homes.

The neighborhood offers a suburban-quiet feel with convenient access to services and amenities. McGrath appreciates the walkability of the area, with nearby shops like Safeway, dining options such as San Matteo on Upshur Street’s “Restaurant Row,” and recreational spots like Rock Creek Park. The location also provides easy access to U Street’s entertainment district via Uber.

Just two miles north of the Stella is the Parks at Walter Reed, a new neighborhood with residential and commercial developments, public parks, and retail outlets. The Stella’s proximity to these amenities makes it an attractive residential option in the city.

The building is served by public transportation, with a Metrobus stop outside the building and the Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro station within a 15-minute walk. Nearby schools include John Lewis Elementary, MacFarland Middle, and Roosevelt High.

Developed by Hawk Capital LLC, the Stella offers condominiums priced between $299,900 and $699,900. Condo fees range from $203 to $375 per month, with units ranging from 498 to 1,229 square feet in size. Parking spaces are available for purchase, and residents are allowed two pets with a 100-pound limit each.
