Hong Kong Monetary Authority Issues Warning on Fraudulent Banking Website

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a warning about a fraudulent website and internet banking login screen linked to China CITIC Bank International Limited. This alert aims to protect the public from potential financial scams, as stated in a recent press release from the bank.

The HKMA has reported the existence of a deceptive website and login screen, urging the public to remain cautious. The fraudulent site imitates the legitimate internet banking platform of China CITIC Bank, posing a risk of users unknowingly sharing personal information.

Legitimate banks, as emphasized by the HKMA, will never send SMS or emails with clickable links to their websites for transactions. They will also not ask for sensitive information like login passwords or One-Time Passwords (OTPs) via phone, email, or SMS. Customers are advised to be wary of such communications and avoid clicking on any embedded links.

Individuals who have unknowingly provided personal information or engaged in financial transactions through the fraudulent website or login screen should immediately contact China CITIC Bank using the contact details provided in the official press release. Additionally, affected individuals should report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre at 2860 5012.
