Austin Water urges conservation in S/SW Austin today during major pipeline repair

Austin Water is advising customers in far south and southwest Austin to conserve water on Friday while a major water line is repaired. While customers are not expected to lose water service, Austin Water is taking precautions just in case. They will provide free bottled water at Bowie High School from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Friday.

The repair is necessary to replace a leaking 4-foot diameter water line near Westgate Blvd and Davis Lane in far South Austin. The repair is expected to last 8 to 12 hours. Austin Water reassures customers that the heat will not slow down the repair process, as they are experienced in working in all conditions.

The affected pipeline serves a large area of south and southwest Austin, impacting customers extending north past US 290 to Southwest Parkway, south past the Shady Hollow neighborhood to the SH-45 Southwest area, east to Menchaca Road and west to Oak Hill. Some smaller utilities that resell Austin water will also be affected.

Customers in the area may not notice any changes, but Austin Water reminds them that there will be no water flowing into the system in Southwest Austin all day on Friday. Therefore, it is important to conserve water by refraining from activities such as watering, filling swimming pools, doing laundry, or washing cars. It is advised to hold off on any activities that require a lot of water usage.
