External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted the impact of India’s technological feats on the perception of Indians living abroad. He mentioned that the country’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission had a significant influence on how India is viewed globally.
Speaking at an event in Delhi, Jaishankar emphasized that decisions made at home are closely observed by the rest of the world. He pointed out that India’s ability to stand up for its interests and citizens, as well as its achievements in technology, have captured the fascination of people worldwide.
The minister discussed how India’s response to the COVID-19 crisis transformed its global image from a country of concern to a source of support. He also highlighted the efforts made to bring back Indian citizens during emergencies in other countries, such as Operation Ganga which rescued Indian students from Ukraine.
Jaishankar emphasized the importance of the Indian passport, noting that it symbolizes the government’s commitment to supporting its citizens abroad. He suggested that the true value of a passport should be measured not just by visa-free travel but also by the support available in times of trouble.
Furthermore, Jaishankar discussed the interest in India’s domestic policies and infrastructure development among international observers. He mentioned the construction of 40 million houses for low-income families in the past decade as an example of India’s progress.
