Leading infrastructure to accelerate electric power intelligence

The global shift towards carbon neutrality and peak strategies is driving the adoption of new energy sources worldwide. However, new energy is often restricted by weather and climate conditions, leading to uncertainty in its reliability. The main challenge for future power systems is transitioning from traditional load-based generation to source-grid-load-storage interaction in uncertain environments.

To address these challenges, integrating digitalization with electric power scenarios is crucial. Huawei’s perspective on power scenarios offers valuable insights for power companies, focusing on grid-based sources, loads, and networks. By aligning these capabilities with service strategies, grid autonomy can be achieved, allowing for efficient market-oriented interactions.

Power companies must build digital capabilities centered on a digital foundation and open ecosystems to address the challenges of new power systems. The digital foundation consists of ubiquitous network connection, intelligent computing, and a digital platform that accumulates enterprise assets. In the digital era, collaboration and innovation within open ecosystems are essential.

Huawei’s Electric Power Digitalization BU aims to pair digital and intelligent communication technologies with power scenarios. By focusing on key power scenario requirements, the BU is committed to creating value for the industry. One example of this is the Intelligent Distribution Solution (IDS) implemented with State Grid Shaanxi in China, which improved power distribution reliability and reduced line loss.

Four key technologies were deployed in the digital foundation, including edge computing, optical fiber, wireless networks, high-speed power line carrier communication, and a cloud-based digital platform. These technologies enabled State Grid Shaanxi to evolve towards open and systematic intelligence in power distribution.

Huawei also helps customers build open ecosystems, aiming to make digital capabilities available to all industry players. By empowering electric power experts with digital expertise, the Electric Power Digitalization BU strives to build sustainable digital capabilities for customers.

State Grid Shaanxi’s implementation of topological identification at the low-voltage side led to improved accuracy, data collection success rates, and customer satisfaction. The solution also enabled proactive service delivery and reduced passive work orders.

In addition to power distribution, Huawei offers intelligent solutions for power generation, transmission, and transformation. By focusing on communication, digitalization, and AI expertise, Huawei collaborates with industry partners to solve problems and create value across various sectors.
